Summer Film Work to be BIG

With a bit of a stunted start to 2010, the film season is exploding! Grand Rapids saw activity in the winter months with at least 4 indie feaures helping to train crews in the west while the Detroit area has seen very little. That, is about to change. Since the beginning of 2010 location scouts have been hard at work on 6-8 features of size and now that pre production work will turn into production.

Salvation Blvd. SWAT - Firefight have wrapped. The big one, Reel Steel has taken up HQ in Red Dawn's old digs and is working on it's 70 days of principle photography. Other titles are: VAMPs set for Aug 2, The Double, shooting til July 31, Restitution, has wrapped, HUNG, will be back, Last City Vengeance, Scream 4, is shooting, Machine Gun Preacher is rolling as is Street Kings , 30 Seconds or less, starts in July also PLAYBACK, TOUCHBACK both in Grand Rapids. Shrinking Charlette and War Birds are also in pre pro. HOSTEL 3 has just been approved also.

This activity will tax the infrastructure that we have been developing and retooling since 2008 and give the trainees at WCCC ample slots for internships. IATSE is supporting the program at WCCC and as it develops perhaps other cities will be able to benefit from similar grant programs used to fund this one.

Cal Hazlebaker is the new B.A. at IATSE and Carrie Jones sits in Janet's chair.

There are a miniumum of 6 films shooting right now in Michigan.
