The idea of encouraging expatriot filmmakers to return to Michigan to shoot has been around for a long time. However, no one has yet found a way to make this happen. We thought the best idea was to send a contingent with the Governor to places where these folks are and just like a trip to China, Germany or Sweden - give them the reasons they need to shoot here. NOW, through the efforts of MFAC's Jim Burnstein we are looking at having a Hollywood talent agency represent MIchigan.

The idea of having a talent firm represent a State is new. If one is retained, they could seek out projects in the pipe then orchestrate and direct our efforts to the appropriate deciders.

Beyond that,  they ways to attract work here is and always will be a horserace and a moving target. Some ideas to help are:

1. Given the worldwide trend develop incentives, always evaluate/ improve - remove what doesn't work, add what could.

2. Make it easy to shoot here! Access to proper officials and information.  Why shoot in Michigan?  Why Shoot in Detroit?

Michigan is a destination. Shorelines, trees, urban, rural water, bridges, lighthouse AND all within close proximity,

Detroit is where the industry learned how to shoot cars. We are the best car shooters in the world. D.Ps studied the work of Detroit area professionals and became skilled. We know how to light sheet metal! Our crews were weaned on the curves of automobiles... And how to work in factories without too much disruption.

We also know, Detroit has a huge waterfront with bridges, parks, urban cityscapes - but you can find rural parts close by.

Let's put the word out - we are out to work, out to revitalize our infrastructure, out to train and keep our crews.
